<\/i><\/u>Dear Mr. <\/i>Reny<\/i>. During his IB exams my son failed for Math higher and Physics higher. After the summer holidays he had to prepare for the retakes early November. Meanwhile we also discovered that our son suffered from ADD. This had caused him regularly to disconnect during lessons. And when on top of that, he missed some lessons due to illness, he was not able to keep the focus on making-up with what he had missed. Now he had to fill all his gaps in knowledge and skills in just over two months: a tall order. For Physics we arranged for private tuition from Mr. <\/i>Reny<\/i>. During these 2 months Mr. <\/i>Reny<\/i> took him through all the subjects. With his enthusiasm and his educational skills he was able to identify all the weak points and to provide to my son the right insight in all important topics. My son was also very happy with the hand-outs he provided, with clear explanations and exercises for all subjects. But apart from teaching the theory he was also able to spark enthusiasm and confidence. Eventually he also provided a good preparation for the exams. After this my son felt that he had a much deeper understanding of physics than before.
<\/i>Then came the exam and the result was astonishing: At his previous exam he had just a 3, but now he scored a 6, just 1 % short of a 7! Mr. Reny has been tutoring my daughter, individually and in a small group, in IB Physics HL. At every sessions, M. Reny demonstrates a strong background in science, with specific areas of knowledge and expertise, as a result of his previous extensive research work, experience in education, coaching and many extracurricular activities.
<\/i>Mr. Reny uses a variety of instructional strategies to address each subject and is very sensitive to different learning styles.
<\/i>He is brilliantly capable of engineering into his students that all important connection between theory and practical applications in the real world. Many times after a session, my daughter had come home excited to share insights into a specific topic just because a clear connection was made during the solving of a problem (e.g. green house gas effect).

<\/i>Now that the results are in it is time to look back and reflect how <\/i>Reyer’s<\/i> tuition went. First and foremost, thank you again for all your efforts. As you correctly noted <\/i>Reyer<\/i> was extremely far behind when you started with him, and he actually had no confidence that he would ever pass his exam, and therefore obtain his IB diploma. His school teacher had all but given up on him.
<\/i>After the first few sessions you were confident that you would be able to help him obtain a pass, in spite of our misgivings. You set to work systematically, going all the way back to basics to see what knowledge <\/i>Reyer<\/i> did have which you could then build on. This turned out to be minimal. As such it took a long time to get through the first topic\u2026
<\/i>\u2026 Although <\/i>Reyer<\/i> really had no interest in the subject you always managed to engage and motivate him enough to get the work done that he was set. Without the personal relationship you built up with him I am convinced he would never have succeeded. You clearly had made a commitment to us that <\/i>Reyer<\/i> would obtain a pass, and you did everything possible to make this happen, including moving to two lessons a week, and at the very end even organizing a full day tuition.
<\/i>In the end <\/i>Reyer<\/i> went into the exams with the confidence that he knew enough to at least get the grade that he felt he needed in order to gain his diploma. This confidence certainly helped get him through the last few weeks before the exams, and let him get some sleep the days before.
<\/i>Reyer’s<\/i> final result was a low 4.\u00a0 This was enough to get sufficient points for his <\/i>Highers<\/i>, and to get his IB diploma.
